Regional Operations Manager

Mike Ronan


Mike Ronan joined MPCT as the Regional Operations Manager (South) in October 2015. He joined the Army in 1986 and retired in April 2015 as a Late Entry Major.
Mike specialised as an Instructor and advisor on Infantry Weapons with the Small Arms School Corps in 1994 having transferred from the Royal Irish Rangers. Selected to be a commissioned officer from the ranks, he filled a series of increasingly demanding senior and middle management roles, including; Chief of Staff on operations in Afghanistan, SO2 training at a BMATT in the Czech Republic, Corps Adjutant for the SASC, Officer Commanding at the Infantry Battle School, Training Officer at an Army recruit training college and Exchange Officer with the Australian Defence Force. He deployed overseas to Germany, Canada, Northern Ireland, Lebanon, Cyprus, Australia, Afghanistan, Czech Republic, Serbia, Kosovo, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
On retirement, Mike took employment as a Senior Consultant, providing training and management consultancy services in the Safety Critical Sector and is also currently serving as the Reserves Training Major with 7 RIFLES.
Mike is married to Nicola and has two children, Louis aged 25 and Daniel aged 21.

Military Experience

I started my career in 2005 and served for 5 years within the Royal Pioneer Corps as an assault engineer. I conducted major training exercises in the UK, Europe & Belize, doing jungle warfare tactic, then deployed to Afghanistan on op Herrick in 2007. Whilst on tour I was injured by an IED and sent home for rehabilitation. After one year I was back on my feet and tasked on many more job such as public duties, welfare support team and promotion to LCpl. I left full time services in 2011. I currently still serve in the reverse forces.

Military Experience

Served for 24 years in the Royal Navy, the last eight of which was spent in a tri-service intelligence collection unit. My various roles have taken me to Iraq, Afghanistan, Antarctica, Falkland Islands, South Africa and South America among other countries.

Joined the MPCT as an Administrator then Functional Skills Tutor. I was IV for England, Recruiter and now I work across 3 colleges, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton assessing maths and English.
