If you are aged 16-19* and in full or part-time training you may be entitled to financial assistance (Bursary) to help you pay for essential education-related costs such as course equipment, lunch or transport to and from your college. The college courses operate a roll on-roll off enrolment, so you can join anytime.

*You have to have started the course before your 19th birthday.

You could get a bursary of up to £1,200, per year. For more information on the Bursary Fund, click here. You may be entitled to receive up to £40.00 per week for a potential of up to 30 weeks.

How much do I have to pay for the course?
The training is free because it is part funded by the Education Funding Agency.

What if I can’t afford to buy the kit?
You may be eligible to claim financial support (16 – 19 Bursary Fund). The Bursary Fund (if you are eligible) is to provide help if you struggle with costs that may affect your learning.

I need to travel on Public Transport, I’m not sure if I can afford it?
If eligible to assistance from the Bursary Fund, travel costs will be covered.

Am I entitled to Free Meals?
If eligible to the Bursary Fund, you are also eligible to free meals whilst in learning with MPCT. You will receive the daily allowance for each day attended.

How do I apply for the Bursary?
With the help of you parent/ guardian/ carer complete the Financial Support Application Form (FS1) held within the Forms to Complete pack. You will need to provide the evidence.

How does the Bursary work?
If you are eligible to the Bursary, you will be entitled to claim any costs that pay for items relevant to the course up to a maximum of £1200 each year. For example, your travel (between home and your college) and any money you spend on kit and equipment essential for you to complete the course. Each day you are in and have a meal, you will receive £2.41 per day.

Do I need a bank account?
If you are eligible to the Bursary – yes. Funding claimed will be paid directly into your bank account.

Will my parents lose their Child Benefit for me when I start the course?
No. Our courses are approved by Government and therefore have no impact on Child Benefit because your child is under 20 and in full time education. Click here for more information.
